Stromboli…My Way!

I am by no means Italian. I may have some distant ancestor who was Italian in my family history, but I was not raised Italian. I adore Italian food though! We make a TON of pizza at our house. My kids prefer homemade, me too! This is as easy, if not more easy- than making pizza. Same dough even! My kids can make this, it’s so easy!stromboli1After the dough has risen, roll out to a large rectangle. Fill with all of your favorite pizza fixings, sans the sauce. (Trust me!) Roll it up as if you were making cinnamon rolls. Fold under the ends. Score the top to allow venting of steam. I top with an egg wash, herbs and whatever makes me happy that day. Olives was it for me that day! πŸ™‚stromboli2Bake at 400 degrees for about 25 mins, or until top turns a golden brown color. Let cool slightly before cutting.

Mia’s Pizza Dough Recipe:

1 packet of active yeast

1 tbsp sugar

2 cups lukewarm water

*Let these 3 ingredients sit for 10 mins.

Add in 1 tbsp sea salt, a drizzle of olive oil and then begin adding in 5 cups of flour. I use my Kitchen Aid mixer with the hook to knead for about 5 mins. When adding in the flour, add in 1 cup at a time, making sure the dough is not too dry. I have found that if the dough is a little too dry, add in a little bit of olive oil. Works great!

Put the dough in a bowl, making sure the dough has a light coating of olive oil over it. Cover and rest for about an hour.
